I believe I portrayed the feelings of the woman in the story because of many things. For one, the stocking is alone on the mantel and unable to be "free" from hanging, like the others on the ground. This resembles the woman being trapped in her room, unable to see anyone or do what she wanted. The hangers in this image are strong, symbolizing the husbands power to keep his wife away from public because of her "nervous habits". I added in a dark gradient to make the image have the eerie/gloomy essence because that was how I felt after reading the story. And finally, the lighting and green on top of the mantel symbolize the beauty she lived in. The stone on the fireplace resembles the movement and texture the woman saw in the paper.Tuesday, December 16, 2008
Yellow Wall-paper

color psycology
redRed has a range of different emotions. For example, if used in the correct sense, red can make something feel passionate and loving. It can then switch over to a feeling of rage, anger, and violence. It is found that this color can raise blood pressure and increase breathing. Red can also come across as powerful to the eyes of many (ej: the red carpet for celebrities). Danger and fear are portrayed from this color as well, like with red stop signs (helps drivers fear the danger of busy crossroads). Because of the color's vibrant nature, it's used to grab attention and promote a sense of confidence. The meanings of red in different countries worldwide mean joy and purity.
I believe my image portrays the powerful and passionate feeling of red. The burning fire gives that feeling of heat and warmth, much like power and passion bring about.
orange
Because orange is a combination between red and yellow, it has a share from each of those colors into its own unique meaning. First, orange portrays the feeling of warmth, like the sun. Energy is also brought out from this color, but because it's a combination of colors, it's not nearly as energetic in feel as red. Orange is known to stimulate different emotions because of its warmness. It also stimulates changes (ej: the change in seasons- fall to winter). The most common combination with orange is black because of the Halloween background. Blue is known as orange's complimentary, making it pop out. The one combination orange is best with is red and yellow, creating a fiery feel. To make a tropical feeling, orange and green can be combined together.
yellow
Yellow is the color of happiness and sunshine. Joy is also another feeling denoted by yellow. On the other hand, yellow also depicts cowardliness and deceit. Because of its brightness, yellow often gives off a cheeriness. Yellow is used in many street signs because of its brightness, so it often has a sense of harm as well. Finally, yellow's brightness is very perky too. Yellow is used to perk up other colors, like grays and blues. When it's combined with orange, it gives off a summery and warm feeling.
green
The main feeling from green is life and nature. Health and the environment are often depicted from this outdoorsy color. Also, green can portray envy, jealousy, and greed because of its relation with the color of the dollar bill. Green is known to be one of the more relaxing colors, along with blue. Using different shades of green in an image, it can portray a sense of balance and harmony. Combining green with a blue resembles a very outdoorsy feeling (because of water and forest colors). If green is with a brown or beige color, the image can come off as having a organic feel to it, along with eco friendly.
blue
The main feeling of blue is calmness. It can be friendly and strong at the same time. Blue is universal because of its appearance in the sky. Because of blue's calm nature, some feel sleepy when seeing the color too. But while blue may make a sleepy feeling, too much can bring some feelings of sadness. Again, blue with green creates a natural feeling. Environment effects can be created whenever blue is combined with a light brown or beige. Other combinations, like adding blue to a vibrant red and orange scene, sort of "cool down" the visual.
violet
Meanings for violet come across as royalty and nobility. Because it's a combination of blue and red, it too has some of their shared feelings. For example, violet can be a passionate and romantic color, much like red, but has not as heavy a feeling due to the blue. Violet is also found in nature with the most delicate of plants, like lilacs, orchids, and lavender. In some countries, like Thailand, purple is used to feel sorrow and mourning. Also, the country of Egypt thinks violet of royalty because it was Cleopatra's favorite color, therefore, it is associated with high figures in the country.
pinkPink's feelings come across much lighter then a red because of its lighter shade of red itself. This color means sweetness and a small feeling of passion, like red. Pink also means love because it is a charming color, whereas red is more passionate in feeling.
My image gives off the feeling of a softness because the flower has a very light pink in it. The color also gives off that "cute" or "loving" feeling as well.
brown
The meaning behind brown is down-to-earth. This is because it is found in nature everywhere. Also, brown portrays a feeling of wholesomeness and earthiness. Brown in certain shades can come across as rich, like in chocolate.
grayGray is known to mean several things. For one, it can portray moodiness because it's seen as a cloudy color. It doesn't portray strong emotions because of its coolness. Gray can also be known as boring because it does not have a strong feeling attached to it.
I believe my image of the trees, water and sky have a dull and almost morbid feeling because it is blan. It makes me feel sad because there is not one hint of color, nor a brightness to the image.
black
The main meanings of black are mystery and sophistication. This is because it is sliming and so dark. Black is a huge color when it comes to feeling mournful because it is a dark color. Sadness and depression come off from this color the most. On the other hand, black is also a symbol of elegance.
whiteWhite is one color that evokes strong emotions through many people because it comes off as pure, clean, and innocent. The brightness in white causes people to feel overwhelmed. The clean look of white is used in many obvious places like hospitals.
I like this image because of its softness. The white in the plant gives it that extra feeling of comfort. It looks pure and harmless.
